On Tuesday 27th March, Mad Men season 5 will be sashaying onto our screens after a long wait! The wait hasn’t put people off though, and what better way to celebrate than to look at one of our favourite hourglasses of the moment, Christina Hendricks!
The sexy siren has just graced Cosmopolitan’s cover for March, proving hourglasses can be high fashion as well as high octane!
A different look from the usual 50’s & 60’s outfits we are used to seeing her in, she’s still true to form (pun intended!) and true to herself – recent interviews with the star reveal she had to fight to ‘stay firm’ in being different from everybody else.
‘Kids can be pretty judgmental about people who are different,’ she said. ‘But instead of breaking down and conforming, I stood firm’.
It’s a good job she did. Initially famed for her voluptuous figure and red tresses (though not natural they are stunning all the same!), she is now also recognised as a serious actress.
So who is she? She was born in Knoxville Tennessee to an American mother and English father (a brummy, no less!). Starting as a model she made a few guest appearances on shows, and in 2007 starred in award winning romantic drama La Cucina, though it’s only really since Mad Men she’s fully landed on her feet and in our consciences!
And it was as a result of Mad Men, she met the love of her life, Geoffrey Arend. Introduced by mutual friend Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell in Mad Men), the couple wed on October 11th 2009. For now kids are off the agenda so looks like we can carry on watching her for a little longer yet!
Below are some of Joan’s best quotes in Mad Men, some great pictures of Christina and one of our favourite interviews with her:
Season 5 Joanie quote:
(Told by her disapproving, lonely-hearts mother ‘a woman’s place is beside her man’)
Joan: ‘And how did that work out for you?’
Previous seasons quotes:
Greg: ‘Joanie, I don’t want to have a fight right now’
Joan: ‘Then stop talking’
Joan: ‘Sandra, everyone makes mistakes, but the fact that you’re the kind of person who cannot accept blame is egregious.’
Sandra: ‘I don;t know what that means’
Joan: ‘It means I can’t believe I hired you’
Joan: ‘Dr. Emerson’s a dream, isn’t he?’
Peggy: ‘He seemed nice.’
Joan: ‘He has a place in South Hampton. I’m not saying that I’ve seen it, but it’s beautiful.’
